One way to stop the game from checking for updates is to change both of the lines that say castenet in the fe.txt file to 0 instead of 1. Then change the version # to 3.3 in the version.txt. One thing I have noticed is that the 3.0 or 3.2 version (depending on location) seems to run sluggish compared to the 3.3 version online so this is a quick fix only and try to get your game updated.
