Updater flaw?

I'm no computer wizard so I thought one of you guys out there have some clue as to why I cant seem to get NFS updater to function.I'm trying to upgrade from v.3.2 to 3.5.
I'm using win98SE(FAT32)/pIII600/128MB-133mHz/20GB HD.
While following path C:/program files/electronic arts/need for speed - porsche unleashed I click on the updater.exe icon but get the same cryptic windows error message everytime:

Syntax: Updater.exe
Also, make sure that and do not contain spaces, so use win32 GetShortPathname() to get a short dir name representation.

Can anyone tell me what the heck that means or some alternate way to get the latest version of NFS5??
