Apparently, the messsageboard's software edits out anything between "greater than/less than" signs, so the actual error message (with GT/LT signs substituted) should read.
"Syntax: Updater.exe {channel Url} {Local Dir} {Cd Dir} {app to launch} {pid}
also, make sure that {local Dir} and {Cd Dir}do not contain spaces, so use win32 GetShortPathname() to get a short dir name representation".
